The Camera and Optics Show is organised by Carmarthen Cameras Ltd and supported by major equipment manufacturers and distributors. It is believed to be a unique event held in Wales, where amateur and professional photographers alike can discuss and experience the latest products direct with the manufacturers.

The show will take place on September 7th 2013 from 10am to 5pm at the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel in Carmarthen. There will be opportunity to raise issues on the use of current equipment and to purchase items on the various stands. As well as having over twenty trade stands, seminar sessions will run during the day (thirty minutes each) in an adjacent room, where photographic processes are explained and new products demonstrated.

The event is modelled on the annual ‘Focus on Imaging’ show held at the NEC in Birmingham, which attracts around 40,000 visitors over four days. This is the first Carmarthen event and it is envisaged to make it an annual two-day event. The event is being advertised nationally, in photographic magazines such as Amateur Photographer, Digital SLR Photography, Photo Professional etc., as well as Internet promotion.

The Welsh Photographic Federation will be present to explain how members can obtain professional qualifications and also to promote the activities of the 50 + affiliated photographic clubs and societies in Wales.

There is no better venue than the beautiful, photogenic county of Carmarthenshire to launch such a venture.  All involved are confident that it will bring in a large number of visitors as well as committed exhibitors who will use local hotel and restaurant facilities.   Bydd cyfle i godi materion ar y defnydd o offer presennol ac i brynu eitemau ar y gwahanol stondinau. Yn ogystal bydd dros ugain o stondinau masnach, bydd y sesiynau seminar yn rhedeg yn ystod y dydd (tri deg munud yr un) mewn ystafell gyfagos, yn dangos ac esbonio prosesau ffotograffig a chynhyrchion newydd .

Bydd Ffederasiwn Ffotograffig Cymru yn bresennol i egluro sut y gall aelodau gael cymwysterau proffesiynol a hefyd i hyrwyddo gweithgareddau'r pumdeg o glybiau ffotograffig cysylltiedig a chymdeithasau yng Nghymru.

Nid oes lleoliad well na Sir Caerfyrddin i lansio menter o'r fatham am eu fod yn Sir ffotogenig a hardd . Mae pawb sy'n gysylltiedig yn hyderus y bydd yn dod â nifer fawr o ymwelwyr yn ogystal â arddangoswyr ymroddedig a fydd yn defnyddio chyfleusterau lleol gwestai a  bwytai. The Best Carmarthenshire Breakfast

On 15 July, four chefs from Carmarthenshire came together at Coleg Sir Gar to serve up the best breakfasts which could be produced in B&B’s and accommodation across the county. The Carmarthenshire Farm Group, accommodation businesses either in the farming or tourism industry were invited to taste the dishes and choose four or five that they would like to take forward to pilot to their guests over the summer.

The chefs who took part included: Julian Preda from the Plough Inn in Rhosmaen, Scott Davis from Cnwd in Crosshands, Stewart Williams from Stradey Park Hotel in Llanelli and Marc Scaife from Con Passionata in Carmarthen. They wanted to help demonstrate to the businesses the variety of dishes you can serve to guests by using local produce. The meals ranged from the traditional fry up to high energy breakfast muffins to takeaway.

Fiona Park, owner of Cwmcrwth Farm Cottages and the driving force behind this breakfast initiative said, ‘I believe we have wonderful produce on our doorstep and this is a great opportunity to develop the best breakfast experience Carmarthenshire can offer. It was an excellent event and the chefs produced some great dishes. The most popular dish was Scott from Cnwd’s gorgeous crumpet, piled high with Carmarthenshire cheesy scrambled eggs and smoked sewin on top.’

Ffres, the South West Wales’ Food Tourism initiative are running training courses on cooking these newly designed, unique Carmarthenshire breakfasts, to ensure all businesses are confident in providing the high standard across the board.

Welsh Tapas Festival

Welsh Tapas Festival takes place in Llandeilo on 7th and 8th September and is calling out to all chefs, professional or amateur, to enter the competitions and for producers of local produce to take stands and take part.

The festival will take over the town for the weekend and close the main street with stalls and a demonstration stage where the competitions will take place. Then in the evenings there will be a music festival feel with bars serving Welsh alcoholic beverages.

The Welsh Tapas Partnership, who are organising the event are working with Ffres (Fresh), a food tourism initiative to showcase the best tastes of south west Wales. They are looking for keen local chefs to compete in this distinct and eye-catching event, as well as local food suppliers to promote their own business by stepping into the limelight.

Rugby Legend at Carmarthen Flea Market

This weekend looks likely to be a record turn-out for Towy Antiques Fair’s Summer Antiques and Flea Market on the United Counties Showground.

Wales is well known for its love of rugby, so fans of the sport may be interested to hear that there will be a chance to buy a rare photograph of the Cardiff Rugby team from 1901/02.These fifteen handsome young men, including their legendary captain, H.B. Winfield, were proud members of one of Wales’ premier clubs on the eve of the arrival of the legendary All Blacks in 1902 – still the most controversial touring side ever to come to Wales.

Whatever the weather, buyers will be thick on the ground from 10am. It takes place on Sunday 28th July; admission is £4 for adults with free and plentiful parking available.

Beefy’s Welsh Walk

Sir Ian Botham OBE has launched ‘Beefy’s Big Welsh Walk,’ to raise money for the NSPCC in Wales.

The NSPCC Appeal aims to raise £3 million over three years to provide support and help to the most vulnerable children and young people across Wales.

Over three days in August, Sir Ian Botham will walk along parts of the Welsh Coastal Path, starting in Burry Port on Tuesday 6 August and finishing in Cardiff Bay on Thursday 8 August.

‘The route we’ve chosen will not disappoint as Wales has some of the most beautiful coastline in the world,’ said Sir Ian Botham.

Registration is £15 for individuals for one day or £25 for a family (two adults, two children).

To celebrate the success of the walk, Sir Ian Botham and Max Boyce  will host, ‘Beefy’s Big Welsh Ball,’ at the Vale Resort on Thursday 8 August.

Mae Syr Ian Botham OBE wedi lansio, 'Taith Gerdded Big Beefy Cymru, sef' er mwyn codi arian ar gyfer yr NSPCC yng Nghymru.

Mae apêl yr NSPCC yn anelu at godi £ 3 miliwn dros dair blynedd i ddarparu cefnogaeth a chymorth i'r plant a'r bobl ifanc mwyaf agored i niwed ledled Cymru.

Dros dri diwrnod ym mis Awst, bydd Syr Ian Botham yn gerdded ar hyd rhannau o Lwybr Arfordir Cymru, gan ddechrau ym Mhorth Tywyn ar ddydd Mawrth 6 Awst a gorffen ym mae Caerdydd ar ddydd Iau 8 Awst.

'Ni fydd y llwybr rydym wedi dewis yn siomi am fod gan Gymru rai o'r arfordiroedd mwyaf prydferth yn y byd,' meddai Syr Ian Botham.

New Llanelli Area Visitor Online "Video"

More and more consumers are going online to search for and book their holiday or short break. Carmarthenshire County Council is assisting accommodation providers in their digital promotional actions by providing them with new content (both photographic and moving images) to ensure they maximise any “hit” from a prospective customer.

Attached for your perusal is a web link to draft two of a general promotional video for Llanelli (English version). We have to keep this particular overall video fairly short, therefore we cannot mention all the products but we have longer videos being cut on the Millennium Coastal Park, Pembrey Country Park and the walking product of each village/town. The video doesn’t include any accommodation messages as we find that if we do, none of the actual accommodation providers will use the video!

Iconic Breed of White Park Cattle is Calving at Dinefwr

Dinefwr Park has announced that their iconic breed of White Park Cattle is now free of TB after a worrying 18 months under movement restrictions and is calving again due to the addition of a new bull.

As a result of the herd contracting TB in 2012, Dinefwr lost a total of 15 cows and their breeding bull. Lead Ranger and Stockman, Wyn Davies said that the new calf is, “fantastic news for the cattle, for us and for the future of the herd.”

He said, “These animals are the rarest of the rare.” In fact, there are only 1000 registered females left in the world and Dinefwr is their ancestral home, so it’s vital they survive and continue to provide a living link to our distant past.

The first calf of the year was born on June 7 – a bull calf of very good pedigree. The new addition has already attracted a lot of attention amongst ancient breed enthusiasts due to his unusual marking, as he was born with red ears.

Mae Parc Dinefwr wedi cyhoeddi bod eu brîd eiconig o Gwartheg Gwyn yn awr yn rhydd o TB ar ôl 18 mis o peri gofid o dan gyfyngiadau symud, ac yn lloia eto oherwydd meant wedi ychwanegu tarw newydd.

O ganlyniad i'r fuches ddal TB yn 2012, collodd Dinefwr gyfanswm o 15 o wartheg a'u tarw bridio. Ranger a Stockman, dywedodd Wyn Davies fod y llo newydd yw, "newyddion gwych i'r gwartheg, i ni ac i'r dyfodol y fuches."

Dywedodd, "Mae'r anifeiliaid yw'r prinnaf o'r prin." Yn wir, dim ond 1000 o ferched cofrestredig ar ôl yn y byd a Dinefwr yw eu cartref teuluol, felly mae'n hanfodol eu bod yn goroesi ac yn parhau i ddarparu cyswllt byw i'n gorffennol pell .

5 Things to do this Hot July Weekend in Carmarthenshire

Carmarthenshire is a beautiful location no matter what the weather. However, this week’s heat wave is a fantastic time to explore the wealth of activities and spectacular diverse landscapes in the area.

There is so much on offer that it’s difficult to know where to know where to start. This weekend, there are many events to consider as well as our beaches, walks, country parks, castles, camping and much, much more. This weekend features:

1. Ammanford’s Big Day Out. With a crowd of over 4,000 in 2012, the Big Day Out returns with Pant Glas World of Nature bird of Prey display, a fun fair, children’s entertainment, climbing wall, gigantic five-a-side football competition, stalls, scarlet’s rugby inflatables, refreshments and lots more.

2. On Saturday, International Day of Dance returns to the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Dancers from Russia and Ireland will join teams from all over Wales for a day of dancing.

3. Special Vintage is also taking place at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Members of the Vintage Motorcycle Club - the largest motorcycle club in the world - will be showing off their bikes to visitors in Millennium Square.

4. Taith Gerdded at Dinefwr Castle. Free event beginning at Dinefwr park entrance. Walking boots are recommended.

5. Llandeilo Fawr Festival of Music begins on Saturday. Some of the artists scheduled to appear include: The Chilinginian String Quartet, pianist Mark Bebbington and harpist Claire Jones to name a few.

Visit Wales has recently launched a brand new website with a wealth of new content to help explore Wales. Therefore, it is a fantastic resource for the trade.

The material is relevant and at a level that will help businesses take small steps to develop their use of technology to help improve visibility and accessibility to the modern visitor and showcase different ways of using to enhance their tourism product.

The new visitwales.com site will be drawing images from the Share Wales flickr group and they are encouraging the trade to share their images of Wales. The Twizy Due to Make its Debut in Llandovery

A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog about ‘Tracy’ the Twizy Eco Car and a trip around Brecon. From August 5th, the Eco Car is coming to Llandovery. The state of the art electric car will be available to hire by the day and will be based at The Level Crossing for two weeks.

The Level Crossing is a community owned bunkhouse, bistro, and bar located next to Llandovery railway station. The new venture is aimed at walkers and cyclists for who there is secure storage and washing facilities for mountain bikes. It is based on the doorstep of the Western Brecon Beacons and the Cambrian Mountains; there is something for everyone to enjoy here- Mountains, lakes, castles, gardens and market towns.

This innovative little car provides a ‘green’ springboard for exploring the beautiful and stunning area, including the Black Mountain and could benefit tourism in Carmarthenshire greatly, now and in the future as more and more people are becoming conscience over the environmental impact of their holiday choices. More tourists are beginning to embrace sustainable holidays.

Ychydig wythnosau yn ôl, ysgrifennais blog am 'Tracy' y Car Twizy Eco a’i thaith o amgylch Aberhonddu. O 5 Awst, mae'r Car Eco yn dod i Lanymddyfri. Bydd y car trydan ar gael i'w llogi gan y dydd, a bydd yn seiliedig ar y groesfan wastad am bythefnos.

Help Make the Wales Coast Path the 8th Wonder of the World

Virtual Tourist is running a campaign to nominate the 8^th Wonder of the World. The Wales Coast Path is included on the list which is a fantastic achievement, not just for Wales but for Carmarthenshire.

The voting page describes the Coastal Path as, “Unique on Earth, it girds all 870m of the Welsh Peninsula. Walkers can discover the shape of the nation. Vistas take in castles, ancient pilgrimage sites and wildlife.”

£900,000 CADW Heritage Tourism Project

The Marketing & Tourism section of the County Council has secured £900,000 to deliver a regional CADW heritage tourism project that will combine and depict the two intertwined histories of the Princes of Deheubarth and Lords of the Southern March into one unique timeline.

 Funding has been made available from the EU Convergence Programme and the Welsh Government with over £500,000 going into Carmarthenshire itself and the remainder assisting projects in Swansea and Pembrokeshire. The project will run until December 2014.

As well as benefitting the County Council-run Castle in Carmarthen, other key locations in our County are The National Trust and Carreg Cennen Castle. The Princes of Deuheubarth had their seat of power here in Carmarthenshire in Dinefwr Park.

This project is a pan Wales project worth £19million, which will receive a high level of publicity by promoting Wales as a cultural destination. The project will also help open Wales’s outstanding heritage to a wider audience by making it more enjoyable both for visitors and for people who live in Wales.

Mae adain Marchnata a Thwristiaeth y Cyngor Sir wedi sicrhau £900,000 i gyflwyno prosiect rhanbarthol gan CADW ym maes twristiaeth treftadaeth. Bydd y prosiect, a fydd yn cyfuno ac yn darlunio dau hanes sy’n cydblethu hanes Tywysogion y Deheubarth ac Arglwyddi Mers y De, mewn un llinell amser unigryw.

 Mae arian ar gael gan Raglen Gydgyfeirio yr Undeb Ewropeaidd a Llywodraeth Cymru gyda mwy na £500,000 i Sir Gaerfyrddin ei hun a'r gweddill i gynorthwyo prosiectau yn Abertawe a Sir Benfro. Bydd y prosiect ar waith tan fis Rhagfyr 2014.

Yn ogystal â bod o fudd i Gastell Caerfyrddin, y mae’r Cyngor Sir yn gyfrifol amdano, lleoliadau allweddol eraill yn ein Sir yw Castell Carreg Cennen a safleoedd yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol. Yma ym Mharc Dinefwr yn Sir Gaerfyrddin yr oedd cadarnle Tywysogion y Deheubarth.

Mae'r prosiect hwn, sy’n werth £19 miliwn, yn brosiect i Gymru gyfan, a bydd yn cael llawer iawn o gyhoeddusrwydd drwy hyrwyddo Cymru fel cyrchfan ddiwylliannol. Hefyd bydd y prosiect yn helpu i gyflwyno treftadaeth eithriadol Cymru i gynulleidfa ehangach drwy ei gwneud yn fwy pleserus i ymwelwyr ac i bobl sy'n byw yng Nghymru.
