Christmas Dinner Ice Cream for Pooches Launched for Festive Season

Carmarthenshire confectionery launches dog-friendly Yuletide dessert

Peckish pooches needn’t miss out on dessert on Christmas Day thanks to the efforts of a Carmarthenshire confectionery, which has launched a special ‘Christmas Dinner’ flavoured ice cream for dogs as a speciality for the festive season.

Created by Heavenly, a confectionery and dessert specialists found in the boutique town of Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, the Christmas Dinner ice cream offers the flavour combination of turkey, peas, carrots, sage and gravy all in one scoop; with an almond milk base ensuring its pet friendly for your pooch. No more longing eyes staring up at your bulging plate of Christmas pudding - this ice cream will ensure your canine has an indulgent Christmas dessert of his very own.

Heavenly is no stranger to weird and wonderful ice cream flavours. Boasting its own on-site ‘Ice Cream Lab’, the store makes all of its own artisan ice creams using Welsh organic milk and cream (for human consumption), and is able to make any flavour your heart desires at request (as long as they’re given  48 hours notice).

Previous unusual ice cream flavours concocted by Heavenly include Lobster and Fries, Brussels Sprouts, Baked Beans and Worcester Sauce and Chip Butty ice cream. There is, of course, a whole host of more mainstream delicious flavours on offer too- including Lemon Meringue Pie, Jammy Dodger, Fig and Mascarpone and, for those after a true taste of Wales, Bara Brith flavour. Heavenly are also offering a ‘Christmas Pudding’ flavour ice cream for the festive season.

“So much of what we eat on Christmas Day is a no go zone for our dogs, including chocolates and Christmas pudding - it seems it’s just not their day for scraps!” explained Tracey Kindred, owner of Heavenly and maker of the Canine Christmas Dinner Ice Cream. “In fact, many people don’t realise that raisins and grapes are actually toxic to dogs. We wanted to give the poor pooches a break this year and give them their very own Christmas Dinner dessert. Ice cream is the perfect way to give them a treat and making it with almond milk means it’s both lactose-free and low in sugar- as dogs need. Packing in flavours of turkey, gravy and veg, we’re sure this will give them the flavourful festive treat they deserve, and clean bowls all round!”

The Best Carmarthenshire Breakfast

On 15 July, four chefs from Carmarthenshire came together at Coleg Sir Gar to serve up the best breakfasts which could be produced in B&B’s and accommodation across the county. The Carmarthenshire Farm Group, accommodation businesses either in the farming or tourism industry were invited to taste the dishes and choose four or five that they would like to take forward to pilot to their guests over the summer.

The chefs who took part included: Julian Preda from the Plough Inn in Rhosmaen, Scott Davis from Cnwd in Crosshands, Stewart Williams from Stradey Park Hotel in Llanelli and Marc Scaife from Con Passionata in Carmarthen. They wanted to help demonstrate to the businesses the variety of dishes you can serve to guests by using local produce. The meals ranged from the traditional fry up to high energy breakfast muffins to takeaway.

Fiona Park, owner of Cwmcrwth Farm Cottages and the driving force behind this breakfast initiative said, ‘I believe we have wonderful produce on our doorstep and this is a great opportunity to develop the best breakfast experience Carmarthenshire can offer. It was an excellent event and the chefs produced some great dishes. The most popular dish was Scott from Cnwd’s gorgeous crumpet, piled high with Carmarthenshire cheesy scrambled eggs and smoked sewin on top.’

Ffres, the South West Wales’ Food Tourism initiative are running training courses on cooking these newly designed, unique Carmarthenshire breakfasts, to ensure all businesses are confident in providing the high standard across the board.

Welsh Tapas Festival

Welsh Tapas Festival takes place in Llandeilo on 7th and 8th September and is calling out to all chefs, professional or amateur, to enter the competitions and for producers of local produce to take stands and take part.

The festival will take over the town for the weekend and close the main street with stalls and a demonstration stage where the competitions will take place. Then in the evenings there will be a music festival feel with bars serving Welsh alcoholic beverages.

The Welsh Tapas Partnership, who are organising the event are working with Ffres (Fresh), a food tourism initiative to showcase the best tastes of south west Wales. They are looking for keen local chefs to compete in this distinct and eye-catching event, as well as local food suppliers to promote their own business by stepping into the limelight.

Tourism Videos Released

Carmarthenshire County Council has commissioned a new set of tourism videos that will be available for all to see.

Videos promoting Laugharne, Llandovery, Llandeilo and the food trails are already available on Discover Carmarthenshire's YouTube channel. A family day out in Llanelli is currently being edited, along with Pembrey Country Park and Dolaucothi/Red Kite Feeding Centre being filmed next week.

The aim of the set of videos is to physically show visitors to the Carmarthenshire area what we have to offer. The videos give visitors a guided tour of places of interest to visit, stay or eat while spending time in the areas. Sometimes seeing imagery and feeling like you're involved in part of a tour while watching the videos can be more convincing to attract more tourists as you will already have familiarized yourself with the location and that is our hope with these videos.

We have so much here to offer in Carmarthenshire and the videos will give visitors the opportunity to decide in advance which area will suit them best.

Mae Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin wedi comisiynu cyfres newydd o fideos twristiaeth a fydd ar gael i bawb eu gweld.

Mae’r fideos newydd yn hyrwyddo Lacharn, Llanymddyfri, Llandeilo a'r llwybrau bwyd eisoes ar gael ar sianel YouTube Darganfod Sir Gaerfyrddin. Ar hyn o bryd mae diwrnod allan i'r teulu yn Llanelli yn cael ei olygu, ynghyd â Pharc Gwledig Pen-bre, Mwyngloddiau Aur Dolaucothi a Chanolfan Bwydo Barcudiaid Coch yn cael ei ffilmio wythnos nesaf.

Nod y gyfres o fideos yw dangos ymwelwyr i ardal Sir Gaerfyrddin yn gorfforol hyn sydd gennym i'w gynnig. Want to Cut the Costs of Your Small or Medium Business?

The Welsh Government is developing plans to help small and medium businesses (SMEs) cut costs by preventing waste and becoming more efficient.

It’s seeking input from Welsh businesses to help it understand what support they need.

If you have a small or medium business (SME) operating in the hospitality and food service, wholesale, retail or office-based service sector, the Welsh Government wants to hear from you.

You are invited to share your views at one of two free workshops. Both will take place 09:00 – 13:00 and be followed by a free networking lunch.
