Literature Festival 2014 to be held in Carmarthenshire again

Marketing and Tourism are delighted to announce that

the Dinefwr Literature Festival will return to the National

Trust’s Dinefwr Park in Carmarthenshire in June 2014.

Literature Wales, the National Trust and the University

of Wales Trinity Saint David have also welcomed Cadw

on board as a partner, allowing the majestic Dinefwr Castle

to be used as a stage for various events and activities

during the three day festival.

The Dinefwr Literature Festival has been compared to

Glastonbury with its laid-back West Wales attitude. Welsh

writer Horatio Clare described last year’s event as, “one

of the best, richest and most interesting atmospheres I

have found at ANY festival: the house, the ancient ground

and castle, the weather, the ghosts, the white cattle and the

cream of Welsh writing and performing – how blessed we

were! I think those who were there, were in the beginning

of something special.”

The event is something for the whole family to enjoy

along with an extensive new educational outreach

programme for local school children. Local Member of

Parliament, Jonathan Edwards says that, “The festival

will create unique learning opportunities for young people

and will once again bring a significant boost to the local

economy.”

Mae Llenyddiaeth Cymru, yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol a Phrifysgol Cymru Y Drindod Dewi Sant hefyd wedi croesawu Cadw ar fwrdd fel partner, gan ganiatáu i'r Castell Dinefwr mawreddog i gael ei ddefnyddio fel llwyfan ar gyfer amrywiaeth o ddigwyddiadau a gweithgareddau yn ystod yr ŵyl dridiau.

Mae Gŵyl Lenyddiaeth Dinefwr wedi cael ei gymharu i Glastonbury â'i hagwedd hamddenol yn Gorllewin Cymru. Disgrifiodd awdur o Gymru Horatio Clare digwyddiad y llynedd fel, "un o'r awyrgylchoedd gorau, mwyaf cyfoethog a diddorol rwyf wedi dod o hyd yn UNRHYW ŵyl: y tŷ, y tir hynafol a'r castell, y tywydd, yr ysbrydion, y gwartheg gwyn a hufen o ysgrifennu a pherfformio Cymraeg - bendigedig oeddem! £900,000 CADW Heritage Tourism Project

The Marketing & Tourism section of the County Council has secured £900,000 to deliver a regional CADW heritage tourism project that will combine and depict the two intertwined histories of the Princes of Deheubarth and Lords of the Southern March into one unique timeline.

 Funding has been made available from the EU Convergence Programme and the Welsh Government with over £500,000 going into Carmarthenshire itself and the remainder assisting projects in Swansea and Pembrokeshire. The project will run until December 2014.

As well as benefitting the County Council-run Castle in Carmarthen, other key locations in our County are The National Trust and Carreg Cennen Castle. The Princes of Deuheubarth had their seat of power here in Carmarthenshire in Dinefwr Park.

This project is a pan Wales project worth £19million, which will receive a high level of publicity by promoting Wales as a cultural destination. The project will also help open Wales’s outstanding heritage to a wider audience by making it more enjoyable both for visitors and for people who live in Wales.

 Mae arian ar gael gan Raglen Gydgyfeirio yr Undeb Ewropeaidd a Llywodraeth Cymru gyda mwy na £500,000 i Sir Gaerfyrddin ei hun a'r gweddill i gynorthwyo prosiectau yn Abertawe a Sir Benfro. Bydd y prosiect ar waith tan fis Rhagfyr 2014.

Yn ogystal â bod o fudd i Gastell Caerfyrddin, y mae’r Cyngor Sir yn gyfrifol amdano, lleoliadau allweddol eraill yn ein Sir yw Castell Carreg Cennen a safleoedd yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol. Yma ym Mharc Dinefwr yn Sir Gaerfyrddin yr oedd cadarnle Tywysogion y Deheubarth.

Mae'r prosiect hwn, sy’n werth £19 miliwn, yn brosiect i Gymru gyfan, a bydd yn cael llawer iawn o gyhoeddusrwydd drwy hyrwyddo Cymru fel cyrchfan ddiwylliannol. Latest edition Bedroom Browser’s now available

Following the success of our ‘bedroom browser’ which includes loads of things to do in Carmarthenshire, an updated reprint is now available for all accomodation providers. Printed cover folders & new print inserts are now in stock at our three Tourist Information Centres; Castle House in Carmarthen, Llandovery Heritage Centre and Llanelli's Discovery Centre (by the end of this week).

We arranged for the majority of establishments to receive

the correct quantity of folders for the season; however

accommodation providers are able to order or collect

further supplies throughout the year as needed.

pop into one of the Information Centres or if you have

Tourism Videos Released

Carmarthenshire County Council has commissioned a new set of tourism videos that will be available for all to see.

Videos promoting Laugharne, Llandovery, Llandeilo and the food trails are already available on Discover Carmarthenshire's YouTube channel. A family day out in Llanelli is currently being edited, along with Pembrey Country Park and Dolaucothi/Red Kite Feeding Centre being filmed next week.

The aim of the set of videos is to physically show visitors to the Carmarthenshire area what we have to offer. The videos give visitors a guided tour of places of interest to visit, stay or eat while spending time in the areas. Sometimes seeing imagery and feeling like you're involved in part of a tour while watching the videos can be more convincing to attract more tourists as you will already have familiarized yourself with the location and that is our hope with these videos.

We have so much here to offer in Carmarthenshire and the videos will give visitors the opportunity to decide in advance which area will suit them best.

Mae Cyngor Sir Caerfyrddin wedi comisiynu cyfres newydd o fideos twristiaeth a fydd ar gael i bawb eu gweld.

Mae’r fideos newydd yn hyrwyddo Lacharn, Llanymddyfri, Llandeilo a'r llwybrau bwyd eisoes ar gael ar sianel YouTube Darganfod Sir Gaerfyrddin. Ar hyn o bryd mae diwrnod allan i'r teulu yn Llanelli yn cael ei olygu, ynghyd â Pharc Gwledig Pen-bre, Mwyngloddiau Aur Dolaucothi a Chanolfan Bwydo Barcudiaid Coch yn cael ei ffilmio wythnos nesaf.

The Unveiling of ‘Adref’

The team of the Marketing and Tourism Section
have just arrived back at the office after joining the
celebrations and the official opening of Llanelli Town Centre.

The people of Llanelli couldn’t have asked for a nicer
day to celebrate, The Big 5 Development. The official
opening was performed by the Chairman of
Carmarthenshire County Council, Councillor Terry Davies.

Councillor Meryl Gravell the Executive Board Member
of the Regeneration Department of Carmarthenshire County
Council also gave a speech at Llanelli Library, concentrating
on the project, ‘Adref.’

 ‘Adref’ will connect and strengthen the links between the
existing new developments within Llanelli Town Centre and
the sustainable wider regeneration of Llanelli and its
surrounding communities. Councillor Gravell also went on
to say how the local business traders were sceptical of
the improvements and new developments and the impact
they would have. She finished with,’ Today we have
proved them wrong.’

Brecon in a Twizy

A new green initiative has been launched in the Brecon Beacons. The Eco Travel Network http://www.ecotravelnetwork.co.uk  was established by local researchers and business owners to offer a pool of electric vehicles for visitors who want to explore the region while keeping their carbon footprint low. These Renault Twizys carry two people and run on batteries that can be topped up at a number of local charging points.

Really delighted that Rough Guides wanted to cover our area on their website as more people are becoming conscience over the environmental impact of their holiday choices and more  tourists embrace sustainable holidays and staycations.

Rachel picked up ‘Tracy’ the Twizy from Westview Guesthouse near Hay-On-Wye. Driven at 30mph, Tracy can do 45 miles in winter and over 50 in the summer. Tracy has no windows and is perfect for the current weather.

Rachel drove the Twizy to the Brecon Cathedral, Llandovery, Myddfai Community Hall and Visitor Centre, Dolaucothi Gold Mines, Penderyn Distillery and The Felin Fach Griffin, re-charging Tracy at each location, ready to move onto the next.

Feature in The Mail on Sunday

Carmarthenshire has been included in the ‘Experience

a weekend in The Valleys’ Mail on Sunday insert, which

will be distributed this weekend.

Kidwelly Castle has been promoted on the History and

Heritage page as a, ‘Fearsome Castle' and Ammanford’s

Big Day Out is also included in the 2013 Events part.

Yet again, Carmarthenshire is being given wide spread

coverage throughout the UK. In April 2013, The Mail on

Sunday had a circulation of 1,697,982 according to the

ABCs National Sunday newspaper report.

This is huge news for the Marketing and Tourism

department as the great sites and events that are

available in Carmarthenshire are gaining exposure

and will be seen by a wealth of people in the UK,

hopefully attracting more visitors to the area.

Carmarthenshire is First Choice for Soldiers

Carmarthenshire is first choice for The Household Cavalry

Mounted Regiment, based at Hyde Park Barracks; they

chose to make the trip to West Wales twice last month,

to spend some rare downtime enjoying at Battlefield Live.

In total, 112 soldiers took part in a day of combat games

using the latest IR technology, interspersed with pistol

training and survival training with A Squadron Ltd, which

is run by ex SAS legend Bob Podesta, who spent 25

years in the SAS.

Battlefield Live Pembrokeshire is outdoor combat

gaming at its best. They use infra-red (as used by

the military), it has all the adrenalin fuelled fun of Call

of Duty but without the sofa; it has all the fun of

paintballing without the pain of being hit, and it makes

for a day out everyone can enjoy.

The day out got the thumbs up from soldiers who

declared their day of combat as ‘awesome’ and

they will definitely be returning soon.

Carmarthenshire and the amazing range of attractions,

activities, scenery and beaches, is fast becoming a

highly recommended and visited place for tourists from

all over the world.

Sir Gaerfyrddin yn ddewis cyntaf ar gyfer y Regiment Cavalry Marchogol Cartref, yn seiliedig ym Maracs Hyde Park, maen’t wedi dewis wneud y daith i Sir Benfro ddwywaith yn y mis diwethaf, i dreulio ychydig o amser di-fynd prin mwynhau ar Battlefield Live.

Yn gyfan gwbl, cymerodd 112 o filwyr rhan mewn diwrnod o gemau frwydro yn erbyn eu gilydd gan ddefnyddio'r dechnoleg IR ddiweddaraf, gymysg â hyfforddiant pistol a hyfforddiant goroesi gydag A Sgwadron Ltd, sy'n cael ei redeg gan gyn filwr SAS Bob Podesta, a dreuliodd 25 mlynedd yn y SAS.

Battlefield Live Sir Benfro yw brwydro hapchwarae awyr agored ar ei orau. Maent yn defnyddio IR (fel a ddefnyddir gan y fyddin), mae fel holl hwyl tanwydd adrenalin Call of Duty ond heb y soffa, mae’n holl hwyl o saethu peli paent heb y boen o gael eich taro, mae'n diwrnod allan gall pawb ei fwynhau.

Mae'r diwrnod allan yn cael bodiau i fyny o’r filwyr a oedd wedi datgan eu diwrnod o frwydro fel 'gwych' ac maen’t yn bendant ddychwelyd yn fuan.

News of Fantastic Carmarthenshire Spreading Through Britain

The Marketing and Tourism team of Carmarthenshire
County Council organised for Assistant Features Editor
of the Gloucester Echo and The Citizen, Lucy Parford,
to take a three day trip down memory lane visiting
Carmarthenshire. The feature she wrote about her trip
was printed in the Gloucester Echo on Saturday 1^st June
2013 which has a circulation of 14,111. It also ran in The
Citizen which has a circulation of 17,137.

The Brecon Beacons

Lucy wrote a brilliant piece which promotes Carmarthenshire
in a very positive light. She highlights many places during the
article, describing Beach View Cottage in Llansteffan, the
choice of accommodation in detail. Also mentioned is the
Brecon Beacons, the National Wetland Centre in Llanelli,
Aberglasney Gardens and the Boathouse in Laugharne.

Lucy really sells Carmarthenshire as the wonderful place
to holiday that it is and she describes many of the exciting
places on offer for families, couples, dog walkers, food
enthusiasts and even fashion lovers. She shows how
Carmarthenshire is the ultimate all-round holiday experience.

 Nodweddion Golygydd Cynorthwyol yng Nghaerloyw Echo a'r Dinesydd, cymerodd Lucy Parford taith tri diwrnod i lawr lôn cof wrth ymweld Sir Gaerfyrddin. Want to Cut the Costs of Your Small or Medium Business?

The Welsh Government is developing plans to help small and medium businesses (SMEs) cut costs by preventing waste and becoming more efficient.

It’s seeking input from Welsh businesses to help it understand what support they need.

If you have a small or medium business (SME) operating in the hospitality and food service, wholesale, retail or office-based service sector, the Welsh Government wants to hear from you.

You are invited to share your views at one of two free workshops. Both will take place 09:00 – 13:00 and be followed by a free networking lunch.
