Your essential guide to this weekend in Carmarthenshire...

You can keep you hat on here even if you’re feeling Blue
KEEPING your hat at an elegant angle is hard enough while juggling a handbag and glass of champagne. Just ask any of the elegant ladies trotting off to Trimsaran. All bets are off on it not being a magnificent Ladies Night at Ffos Las Racecourse on May 23 with an added fascinator touch of spice with pop boy band Blue strumming to the event. Recent election results may have painted Llanelli red but Trimsaran will certainly be ‘Blue’ all over for this fabulous family partying event.
There are seven exciting jump races and competitions for the best dressed ladies ah-la-Ascot...and for the best gent – with a hat.  Yes you can keep your hat on if you are feeling Blue, just don’t lose your shirt. And Top Tips to help you find a winner: Don’t bet on any horse if the jockey is wearing pyjamas – he’s bound to come in late.

Walks festival is a blisteringly great event
FORGET John Cleese and his Ministry of Funny Walks.  Llanelli has its very own Festival of Walks that will rock your boots. If, as Nancy Sinatra sang ‘These Boots Were Meant For Walking’ then get yours on make sure that’s just they will do and shuffle along to this Festival Festival running (sorry, walking) from May 22-25. Young and old, non-members and members alike are welcome to the Spring Bank Holiday event that has attracted hundreds to join the throngs spreading through the hills and along the coast from Llanelli. The very professional Llanelli Ramblers organise and host the annual event which has established Llanelli as a popular centre for walking lacing up walkers from all parts of the UK and beyond. The 2015 Llanelli Festival celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the event with a blistering choice of 15 walks to suit all ages and abilities, in areas including the Brecon Beacons, Gower, UNESCO World Heritage Site at Blaenavon and more There will also be a  Festival Party at the newly reopened Selwyn Samuel Centre, as well as the traditional Welsh Tea to round off the Festival.

Wheely great tour of Carmarthenshire
BYNEA Cycling Club has a cycling festival that is wheely great a Tour de Carmarthenshire. Their event on Sunday May 24th has a course spinning through 69-miles of glorious countryside townships and communities that will take your breathy away. It is as much fun for the competitor as it is for the cheering kerb thronging bystanders at the many vantage points showcasing Carmarthenshire on a figure-of- eight course that begins at Church Bank Playfields, Llandovery at 11am. The tour takes in the chocolate box painted hillside properties in Llandeilo, swings under the towering Dryslwyn castle walls and ploughs through the jaw-dropping countryside of the Towi Valley through Llanwrda.

The cyclists will glint past the gold mines at Dolaucothi, stream by Talley Abbey and struggling into the brooding Black Mountain where Top Gear presenters have been known to burn doughnuts in the tarmac. It is a day in the saddle that will have you coming back for more. There are categories for juniors, ladies, and veterans as well as the four classes of regional riders and you can enter on the day for £30
